2018 Model Year Review on the Mercedes A-Class
The all-new Mercedes A-Class is a fantastic family car that many other brands have been trying to beat for years. Now, that’s not because it’s especially spacious or because it’s easy to drive, but rather because it sells better than almost every other car in its class. The old Mercedes A-Class sold over 43,000 units in the UK in 2017, which was more than every Jaguar SUV, sports car and saloon combined! The 2018 A-Class is the revamped model, and it’s a car we’re extremely excited about.
The 2018 A-Class Upgrades
The 2018 A-Class looks different from its predecessor. It has completely new engines and tech, a new interior and sits on a raised platform. The exterior of the car is sleek and beautiful and is really a step up from the previous model. Mercedes have worked hard to improve the cooling systems in the car, and believe that UK users can keep the grill shutters closed completely for 9 months of the year. The 2018 A-class is also 100kg lighter than the 2012 model.
Drivers who buy or lease the 2018 A-Class will be able to take advantage of a large touchscreen as well as digital dials. These are both standard features on all models. The augmented reality navigation is part of the Advanced Navigation Pack, but it’s amazing and is able to show street names, house numbers, and directional arrows. As a driver reaches a junction, it activates, making it clear where drivers need to go. This is a surprisingly useful touch for new drivers and those who don’t know where they’re going.
The Executive Pack will take your driving experience to the next level. This costs £1,395 and includes assisted parking, and heated seats. The Premium Pack was included with every car bought at launch, and this replaces the icon display with another large 10-inch touchscreen.
Mercedes Benz User Experience
The Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX) is another standard feature on all A-Class models. It works in a similar way to Siri, but instead, drivers need to say “Hey Mercedes” to activate. Drivers can then use their voice to activate lighting, adjust the temperature controls, and even get the weather forecast, all without using their hands. It’s a bit gimmicky, but it’s something a lot of younger drivers, especially, appreciate.
How Does It Drive?
When cruising, the 2018 A-Class is stable and composed; it’s truly a pleasure to drive, especially on motorways. It feels like the other Mercedes models we’ve grown to love, but it’s also quiet – similar to an Audi. The A-Class takes 8 seconds to go from 0mph to 62mph, and it has a top speed of 139mph.
Price
The 2018 A-Class currently costs £27,280 to buy outright, however, those who don’t have this kind of money will be happy to know that Mercedes A Class leasing is available for as little as £230 a month. This may be the better option for the majority of consumers.
Mercedes have really outdone themselves with the new A-Class. It’s a fantastic car and a great upgrade to its predecessor.
