When you’re learning to drive, having the right driving instructor is essential. You will be spending many hours in a car with them and the relationship you have may even determine whether you pass first time or not.
If for any reason you don’t trust your driving instructor, they are not punctual or you don’t feel they are teaching you as well as they should be, then don’t hesitate to change. After all, it’s your hard earned money being spent on lessons, so you deserve a qualified driving instructor that you feel at ease with.
At Blue School of Motoring, we have years of experience in helping people of all ages learn to drive. And our highly qualified team of driving instructors in Reading is passionate about providing the very best driving lessons.
So whether you’re looking for a driving instructor in Reading or beyond, here is our guide to help you choose a good instructor.
How do you know if your driving instructor is qualified?
In the UK, only DSA (Driving Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructors (more commonly referred to as ADIs) or DSA licensed driving instructors under training can charge for driving lessons. At Blue, all of our courses are run by fully qualified Reading driving instructors, so you are sure to be in safe hands and receive expert tuition.
It’s easy to see if a Reading driving instructor is qualified by looking in the windscreen of their car. A green octagonal badge can only be displayed by a fully qualified instructor and a pink triangle by an instructor who is still undergoing training.
What other qualifications do driving instructors need to have?
All qualified and training driving instructors are now CRB checked. The DSA have also recently introduced a grading system to improve standards, with 6 being the highest given. All of Blue’s team of Reading based driving instructors naturally fall into the highest grades.
Where should my driving instructor be based?
We would always recommend you choose a local instructor to where you live or work. This makes pickups and drop offs more convenient for you and ensures your instructor knows the roads where you will be taking your test inside out. So if you are based in Reading, you should find a driving instructor working in Reading.
Should I choose an independent instructor?
Some driving instructors are completely freelance and do not work with any motoring school. We would advise whichever option you choose to always speak directly to the instructor, but remember that being affiliated to a good driving school guarantees a high standard and will provide all the support you need.
What else should I look out for?
Driving instructors should be calm and reassuring at all times. You should feel 100% safe with them, develop a good rapport and feel that they are totally in control. This is exactly what our team of driving instructors in Reading aims to do and we guarantee you will be completely satisfied.
