The Best Ways to Practice Driving Before Taking the Test

Like many areas of life, practice makes perfect when it comes to driving. Everybody will be keen to pass their test the first time so that they can immediately get on the roads and enjoy the immense sense of freedom that driving provides, but you must be well prepared if this is to happen. So, what are the best ways to prepare yourself and get plenty of practice in before taking the test?

Driving Lesson

Immerse Yourself in Driving

The first thing to do will be to immerse yourself in driving and make it a major part of your life for the time being. This does not necessarily have to involve getting behind the wheel – you could read theory and guidance online, ride as passenger and ask questions/take notes and simply watch other motorists on the roads and pay attention to how they react to certain situations.

Supervised Driving

One of the most valuable ways to practice is under the supervision of somebody that you know. This is in a more relaxed environment than a driving lesson, you can take your time and really get to grips with the basics (you will then have the confidence to start lessons). Supervised driving can begin by simply driving around a parking lot and then gradually increasing difficulty.

In order to practice this way, the accompanying driver must be at least 25 and have held a full UK driving license for a minimum of 3 years. You must also obtain temporary learner driver insurance, which will provide you with the adequate cover you need. Providers like Dayinsure provide cover for anything from 2 hours through to 5 months.

Driving Instructors

As helpful as it can be to get guidance from a parent or somebody you know, it will not be as valuable as getting tutored by a qualified instructor. They will be able to teach everything that you need to know and have experience in helping people of all abilities and confidence levels. It is important to find an instructor that you get along with, so ask for recommendations and look online for highly-rated instructors. Once you find one you like, it is worth booking in a block of lessons so that you have structure to your learning. The tutor will then tell you once you are ready for the big test.

Learning to drive is a huge part of your life and you will be desperate to pass your test, but it is vital that you get plenty of practice and preparation in beforehand so that you are confident and able when it comes round to taking the test.
