Driving can be extremely dangerous if you’re not willing to drive with due care and attention at all times. When you’re in control of a vehicle, you not only put your own life in danger, but the lives of others. If you’re not doing the below 7 things to stay safe, chances are, you’re not staying safe at all. Read on to learn more:
If you use your phone as a sat nav, like many people do, ensure it’s set up before you travel so you don’t have to touch it. It can be a good idea to turn off notifications for other things, too, so you don’t get distracted.
However, your best bet is to avoid distractions altogether by putting your phone in the glovebox of your car. This way, you won’t be tempted to look at it even when traffic is at a standstill.
Ensure you’re aware of other distractions, too, such as children and pets. Even talking too much to other passengers can be dangerous
2. Get Comfortable Before A Drive
Before setting off, make sure you put on your seatbelt, adjust your mirrors, and make a seat adjustment if needed. Get comfortable before you drive and you won’t have to mess around or suffer while you’re on the road.
If you suffer with a bad back, investing in something to help you sit up straight can ensure you don’t make it any worse in the car.
3. Invest In Pieces That Could Help You Later on
Think about pieces that could help you later on. Look at sites like BBMC and compare the dash cams, to start with. A dash cam can help to lower your insurance, as well as protect you if you do end up getting into an accident that isn’t your fault.
4. Get Plenty Of Sleep
Driving while tired is statistically just as bad as driving while under the influence. You may not be able to get an amazing night’s sleep every night, but you should never drive when you are sleep deprived.
5. Be Ready Before Leaving The House
You’d be surprised at how many people there are applying makeup, doing hair, and eating breakfast – all while behind the wheel of a car. These things are distracting and extremely dangerous. Get up earlier if you need to do these things.
6. Keep Music At A Reasonable Level
Having your music too loud can be a distraction and cause you to miss out on important goings on on the road, such as cars indicating, an ambulance/police car coming, and more.
7. Avoid Tailgating At All Costs
You should always be two cars away from other cars at all times. Do not tailgate, no matter how much of a good driver you think you are. If the car in front brakes, you will be liable. Pay close attention to the weather, as if the road is wet you’ll need to stay even further away.
